Timeline
1923
- Cox Air Gauge Systems was born and over the years went through many changes to accommodate the gas station market.
1930's & 40's
- Cox Air Gauge Systems became Coxwells.
- 1939 - James H. Cox patented the Coxwell to manage air and water hose in automobile service station islands.
- The company builds its first reel in the late 40's.
- Coxwells was the first manufacturer to introduce the following innovative features that are still used in today's reels:
- First enclosed spring cartridge motor for safe and easy replacement
- First external fluid path for simple seal maintenance and easy hose installation
- First disc with rolled edges for safe operation
- Coxwells became incorporated in February 7, 1947.
1950's
- James H. Cox created the CoxCash Master to improve efficiency around the gas station islands.
- The CoxCash Master was a key-operated cash box with a flip-up lid integrated in the island.
- The CoxCash Master became the industry standard appearing on numerous service station islands across the U.S.A.
1960's
- Coxwell had matured in the product life cycle.
- The Cox spring retractable reel created by Dick Cox and Don Cox, became a new alternative to the well system.
- The spring retractable reel became the industry's choice for service station hose in the U.S.A. and Europe.
1970's
- Oil companies were eliminating automobile repair and lubricating services at gasoline stations.
- This market evolution inspired the design of the Cox Sentinel, an off island air-water dispensing unit equipped with a self contained oil-less compressor.
- 1978 – Patent for swivel coupling.
1980's & 1990's
- 1980 – Patent for Convenient Lockbox.
- The company upgraded manufacturing processes and switched from mechanical manufacturing to precision NC manufacturing.
- 1984 - First reel manufacturer to use powder coat finish instead of wet paint.
- 1991 - The corporate office and manufacturing facility located in Los Angeles, California was relocated in a 75,000 square foot facility in Tempe, Arizona.
Early 2000's
- The family owned company is managed by Don's sons, Brad Cox and Jeff Cox.
- 2000 – The company expands its product lines to the power cord reel market.
- 2000 – Patent for EZ-Coil® Safety System.
- Manufacturing processes upgrades with the extensive use of CNC machinery, robotic welding and robotic spin cell operation.
- COXREELS® strengthens its position as the world leader in manufacturing a wide range of hose reels, cord reels and cable reels.
Late 2000's
- The modern manufacturing automation systems allow the company to keep expanding the reel offering and market coverage.
- COXREELS® now offers a high quality reeling device for just about any application.
2010's
- 2012 - In order to accommodate unprecedented growth, the company moves to a 120,000 sq/ft manufacturing facility located at 5865 S. Ash Avenue, Tempe Arizona.
- 2013 - The company celebrates its 90th anniversary of success as a U.S. manufacturer, keeping alive the tradition, passion and conviction of our founders with every reel we make.
- Today, COXREELS® continue leading the industry in innovation manufacturing the highest quality and widest variety of hose reels, cord reels and cable reels.
